BLACK FRIDAY Sale!! November 23rd @ 9:30 AM! Wedding dresses up to 60% off!!!

Hello! It's been a while since I last posted anything on my blog and I apologize because I have been busy. I'll be having a sale the day after thanksgiving, also known as "Black Friday" and all of my wedding dresses will be 50%-60% off.

On another note, business has been busy on and off. This past october was a lot of fun since my daughter asked me to make her halloween costume for her. She got footie pajamas from Walmart and wanted me to make her a "onesie" kind of like it for her "Freakazoid" AND "Dr. Seuss's Thing 1 and Thing 2" costumes. The base of this costume was a red onesie and she wanted red and white footies and gloves to interchange for the two different characters. Did I mention she wanted a "butt flap" too! When I asked why, she said she wanted to use it as pajamas during the winter seasons. I guess thats not a bad idea if you're going to reuse it multiple times. We used 7 cute white buttons along the back, and she had her zipper in the back. It's a little hard to get in and out of, but she didnt want the zipper to show in the front for her costume. It turns out my son wanted one too! So we went to Walmart to buy the fabric (about 2 yards a person) and I went to work. It took me a total of two days and 2 fittings to complete, and it looked really good. My son ended up dressing up as the elevator man from the recent hit song "Gangnam Style" for halloween, but his onesie was a maroon color with a zipper down the front.

Custom Wedding Dress

One of my recent clients came in January and wanted me to re-create a wedding dress she saw in a magazine. Though she loved the dress, she wanted to include a few ideas of her own. 3 of her mother's friends recommended me to help her create her own dress. We discussed the details and looked over the pictures she had in mind. In March, she brought over the fabrics and we went to work. This dress was made completely off the pictures she brought in, with the collaborative creative designs of the bride and myself. The dress was made of silk with a detachable train. The back of the dress was especially hard to complete. I also created a matching silk tie for the groom that matched with the brides brown sash. The finished product was amazing and her wedding in Hawaii was perfect. Enjoy the pictures!

Summer Weddings

May and June have been very busy this year, with many brides coming in for Spring and Summer weddings. But each special bride also has a special dress...

At the beginning of the month, Kal came to my shop with only 18 days before the wedding date. We had to take in the bust, shorten the 6 layers of the dress, and create a french bustle. The 6 layers of shortening were especially difficult because of the material and the stitching was very small.  Even though I had  many other projects on my hands as well, I was still able to complete this project in 10 days.

My neighbor, Heidi of Heidi Lee Portraits, happened to see Kal come in for a fitting and took pictures for us. We only had one fitting due to time constraints, but when Kal left with the dress, it was a perfect fit. She was overjoyed and she looked beautiful.

Enjoy!

September Projects

Hello Readers,

I know it has been a while since we last posted here, but we’re still waiting on some of the photo shoot pictures. So, please be patient to see all of the bridal gown pictures.
In the mean time, we are also compiling photos to post on the custom creations page.

The one we have up is a custom graduation sash for my daughter's graduation from college. I stitched the letters to give the feel of twill and embroidery, and included a pointed edge on the shoulder top so that it would fit around the shoulders evenly and not move around. My daughter even picked out the lettering, colors, fabric and design. It ended up looking beautiful, classy, and a uniquely different from everyone else’s sashes.

Some of my latest projects include:

-         A Custom made wedding dress tailored to a designer’s photograph of the dress and additional custom changes that the customer desired. It took about 4 months to complete with about one fitting a month.

-         I made a customer designed dress for a special performance event. It took about two full days to create.

-         Altered two sets of men’s suits for a customer who wanted to wear his father’s suits. I altered them a size smaller, fixing the collar, lengthening the sleeves, lengthening the hem, and taking in the center seam.

-         And recently started a very large project to alter a dress 3 sizes bigger. A long time customer brought in a dress made in Italy and absolutely loves the style and fabric. However, we don’t want to compromise the style and can’t find the fabric at any fabric store. There is absolutely no additional material from what we already have. So in order to do this we will add two zippers on sides of the dress and take out material from one part of the dress and add it to a different area that needs it more. We will update how the project is coming along as we proceed into it.

Until next time, look for more pictures,  and look forward to a new logo to come soon.

Rosalind's Bridal and Alterations BLOG DEBUT

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Rosalind’s Bridal & Alterations’ blog site. We love everything about clothing, dresses, suits, furniture, fixing things, creating things, cleaning things, and whatever you can think about related to a sewing machine.

We are a little shop in downtown La Jolla, CA owned and operated by Rosalind. She’s been there for over 15 years and every year, her customers bring her unique challenges and adventures up and down the mountainous hills of fabric.

So, to start this new blog off, we decided to do a photo shoot showcasing our extensive collection of wedding dresses available for sale. Thanks to the help of partners, Adrienne Lam, A Lil’ Wedding Planner, SimplyTwo Photography, and Halycon Aveda Salon, we were able to finish our collection of 60 different wedding dress styles within 5 hours, and the help of 5 models. To tell you the truth, it was an exhaustingly long day, but it was well worth every laugh, chuckle, gasp, and smile. Each girl looked amazing.

So, here’s just a little teaser of what we did.
